Facial Identity
We are identified and judged by our faces. Although born and raised in the U.S.A., as a child I was taunted with calls of “Ching, Chong, Chinaman”, “Japanese Beetle” and “Gook”. When I explained that my parents were originally from the Philippines, I was told, “All you Oriental people look the same.” Decades later, even in my own hometown, I still occasionally am told “Go back to where you came from.” My face is different.
